Unhappy front axle swap???

As of the other night i have lost my four wheel drive do to breaking something in the front axle.im not sure exactly what broke in it,to tell the truth it didn't even make any noise when it let go the front tires just stopped spinning.but im thinking the pinion is gone i believe that's the correct word im looking for basically the gear that is at the end of the drive shaft im thinking it has been sheared off.

so should i tear the axle apart or use this as motivation to do a solid axle swap?

also i was just curious thinking about it at work today. would it be possible to put a thick tubular piece of steal of the front part of the same right under the drop piece in the frame. im just curious if i could do this so i can hang shackles off it and put a wider axle under the truck.just a thought.

I highly doubt you broke your pinion gear. Most likely you blew a hub.

Its far easier to move the spring perch on the axle than to do what you are talking about. Your talking 5 minutes to weld on a new 5 dollar perch or a bunch of fabricating and gusseting.

Im part way through mine. Ill be posting soon. Give you some ideas I guess. Im making progress.

Depending on your year it may just be the CAD.
