Default What size transmission do I need?

I swapped from a 3.9 to a 5.2 in a '94 Dakota.

What size of transmission and transfer case do I need to go with a 318? And what years will fit a '94?

I hope I'm giving enough information this time. I'm not very good at this posting stuff. Hope you guys can bear with me.

You need to get a transmission from a V8 (46rh). Your transfercase will work (NV231). Get one from a Dakota, Ram, Vans, Jeep GC. From 92-95.

Well is it automatic or manual?

What Crazy said for an auto, the 46rh. If it's manual, you'll need the nv3500.

For the autos, you can look at a 5.2l Dakota, Ram, Ram van (but be weary cause some of them came with the 727), for the manual, you should look at the 5.2L Dakota and Ram. I heard the Jeep GC won't work cause the starter is in a different location.

Sorry. It's a manual.

Thank you both for your replies. I appreciate it.

No problem, thats why we're here!! Yeah, like I said, the nv3500 for the 5.2L. If you live near North Carolina there was one posted on craigslist out of a Ram with the np231 behind it for $500. They can be hard to find in junkyards, so good luck on your search.

I have one but it is frmo a 2WD. I also have the 4WD tailhousing but haven't ever attempted to swap the two, although a good ttrans shop out here said it is possible.

Oh, and I think you could also squeeze a NV4500 behind it but you need to lift the truck 2" to get room in your tunnel.
