No, the nv3500 is in the 3.9L V6 and 5.2L V8 Rams and the all the 5.2L V8 Dakotas and the 2000+ Dakota 3.9L V6. The pre-2000 Dakota 3.9L V6 had the AX-15 which will not put up with a 5.2L.
The np231 transfer case was used in all PT 4x4 Dakotas and Ram 1500s despite engine.
The tranny MUST be from a 4x4 cause there is nowhere to mount the t case on a 2wd tranny.

Yes, I got my transmission from a '96 4x4 5.2L. The clutch from a Ram should work in the Dakota. I'm not sure about the pedals or hydraulics though.
To clarify my previous post, the reason I said no to your comment "so the nv3500 was in pretty much every v8 and v6 manual truck?" is because the majority of the 4x4 Dakota manuals were 3.9L. The 4x4 manual 5.2 Dakota was a much rarer combination. And, '92 and '93 didn't offer a 5.2 manual at all.
