Can we get info on your truck? Year, engine, transmission, etc?

The overdrive is electronically controlled, have you checked the fuses and wiring?

What do you mean by give out? Are you saying it slips when you move forward, or it slips while shifting, or it won't shift properly, or something else?

Have you actually checked the fluid level? All you said is there are no leaks.

You could burn out the OD bands too. If you check the fluid see if it smells normal or if it has a burnt smell to it.

Also, just curious, what year truck and engine do you have?

its an 89 dakota auto 3spd w/od. i was told that it was a 904 but not sure theres no tag on the trans. it slips all the time when its warmed up. no matter what gear im in. when trying to drive down the road. the trans fluid is not burnt its not dark eather. im going to pull the pan tonight. when it was working it would always shift kinda hard when shifting from 1st to 2nd. the fluid level is good. i have not checked the wires or fuses.

I have an off-the wall thing for you to check. Based on the fluid description you gave, I'm wondering the cooler lines are plugged restricting the flow. Disconnect the cooler lines and make sure there are no clogs and reinstall them!

You should try resetting your computer and seeing what codes come back! Because if code 54 is a current issue, the truck wouldn't run at all. So some of these might be old stored codes. But, 37 could be giving you an issue. You should check out both the TCCS and P/N switch connectors and whatever else you can inspect for both.

Unplug the battery for 10-15 minutes.
