Default R/T Rims on a 96 Dakota

I just bought some Dakota R/t Rims 17x9. Ive got a 96 Dodge Dakota 2wd. The rims fit but the centercap will not go on the front because of a dust cap on the hubs. Is there any tricks I can do to make it fit without removing the dust cap

There must be, cause this is Bad96_3.9's truck:

You could PM him and ask what he did, but the number of times we see him online these days are few and far between.

I'll get a pic up probly tomorrow. Ive read somewhere else on this forum that you could collapse the dust cap in with a hammer. But now that you mention it there is a difference in the hubs between a two and four wheel drive.

You have to cut the end of the spindle back almost to the cotter pin hole. Then you have to shorten the dust cap. The cap may rub the spindle a little but it works.

HTRTrash is right. I grinded down the spindle probably bout a 1/4 of an inch. Then I put the dust cap back on and beat the hell out of it until it flattened down. Then I put my wheel back on. If this doesn't work. Then just grind the end of the spindle down a little bit more and hit on the dust cap some more.
