Lightbulb 1995 dakota headlight problem help

My low beam lights went out while driving and would not come back on had high beams but had to hold the switch in position to keep on. Found the headlight switch had burned wires in connector on back, replaced switch and connector. Now my lights come on but will start to flash like they are on a flasher after being on for about 5 min. They do this on both high and low beems. Have tried to find a relay but can not seem to locat one if it has one. Has anyone got any solutions for this as I am out of ideas?
thanks

The swithch has an internal circut braker This may the the reason for the flashing. It sounds like the wire is shorting out somewhere causing the braker to trip.

+1 on the short. Double check how you wired the pigtail (connector).
