Now I can understand low transmission gears and high pumpkin gears causing that! For every gear reduction, the torque is multiplied in the drivetrain, so just for simple math if an engine is putting ou 500 ft*lbs of torque, and your 1st gear in the transmission is 4:1, the u-joints have to deal with 2000 ft*lbs of torque, and then if your rear pumkin is say 3:1, now your differential and axles have to deal with 6000 ft*lbs of torque. If you flip that around and your transmission has the 3:1 reduction and your pumpkin has the 4:1, your u joints are now only dealing with 1500 ft*lbs but the axles are still dealing with 6000. Make sense?

That .50 6th gear is exactly what I'm looking for. It seems to me that your final drive ratio would determine how much stress you are putting on your drivetrain components. So if I have a .69 overdrive right now with a 3.55 rear my final drive is 2.45...I think. So with a .50 overdrive with my current rear will give me a 1.78...i think again....so to get back to my 2.45 I would need a 4.9 rear which I don't think even exists for the 8.25 rear end. Anyways I'm not concerned too much with tearing stuff up until next winter when I pull the 318 and make it a 390.

My last post didn't really have a point now that I reread it. Anyways has anyone ever bought a car on copart.com . There are 3 v8/manual Z28 Camaros on there within 250 miles of me. May be worth it to buy a whole car to get transmission and then part out whatever is left. I wouldn't mind having an ls1 around.

Guys, I've been at work too long.
I saw T56 and I thought... "that's the engine my planes have on them!" 4,200 to 4,591 prop shaft HP.

LOL!! That'd be fun! That much hp, who would need a transmission, just use a 1:1 straight-ran drivetrain!

2 grswat. if your plannin on running the t56 and keeping your stock 8.25 i w ould suggest going up to the 9.25 from a newer truck. ive blown up 2 8.25 and a ford9" under my truck. y idk but i did. the first 8.25 was a 3.90, the 2nd was a 3.55 and the 9" was a 2.73. im now running a 9.25 from an 02 durango that has 3.92 gears in it and its a very easy swap and a very strong axle

changed my mind. after reading what dodgerules wrote i think it's good. i would rather replace u-joints on a monthly bases than a tranny.

am i being sarcastic. who knows
