Default 1992 Error Code 41

I have a problem with readings on my battery gauge. All my lights are dimming and getting over bright while the gauge shows a decrease and increase in voltage.
1992 Dakota 3.9L LE

I just had a new alternator installed but still have the problem.

Error code 41- Generator feild not switching properly.

I suspect the ECM and voltage regulator that is built in.

Any suggestions are welcomed, especially a reliable company to buy a new or rebuilt unit. It looks like I can probably install this myself ??

Also had failure of EGR sytem which should be unrelated and will post elsewhere.

Thanks

If it is not the alt. It is a wire problem. Or a computer problem. But most likely it is a wire problem. Check the alt first. Take it to most auto parts stores they can test it for free.

Default Info

New Alternator professionally installed and checked for proper voltage- but will retest.

Could the ASD relay cause this problem ?

Severe fluctuation of volt meter (pegs all the way down and up).

Lights dim severely and then over bright.

Thanks

No the ASD relay will not cause it.
