Default gettin her back on the road (discussion inside)

ok so its been a long road and im finally gettin the dak back on the road. i parked it because it was leakin trans fluid and i had no time or money to fix it. now i got a little bit of time and some cash so im on the repair binge

i traced the leak to bein just a pan leak i automatically assumed it was the gasket BUT the pan bolts were loose so im assuming they vibrated loose and that is causing the leak

The transmission was flushed and serviced(filter and fluid change) prolly 20k ago and i have no idea what kind of fluid is in the tranny the rear end was done at the same time and it got royal purple not sure why. anyway i went to the local vato zone and picked up a trans gasket and filter kit. and 4 quarts of non synthetic coastal ATF + 4 what do you guys think should i take em back and get a diff kind of fluid? also SHould i just tighten the bolts and fill er up since the gasket is rubber DISCUSS!!

Next on the list is 6 months ago when hte truck was running and i had money i did some nice brake stand burnouts at the local ricer meet spots and i shredded one of my tires well shortly after that i lost my job and the tire fund i had went to groceries so live and learn i rotated it to the front to get me by but its leaking air now and it is not gonna pass inspection no wires showing but it looks like a drag radial.... anyway i have a brand new full size spare under the truck it seems i have never used it i didnt even put it there lol but the tread looks new and it seems to have air. now i do not have all the tools that came with the truck (jack and tire tools) so how do i get the spare off......

and while the truck was parked some punk *** kid broke my window and stole my deck. anyone know a cheap place online to order door glass and how to install it.....i can get it installed for 130 just seein if i can save a couple bucks.

and it has been sitting for 6 months not moved or started anything i should do besides a oil change and fluid top off?

ATF 4 is perfect. Use it.
For cheep glass go to a local junkyard $20-30.
Go ahead and use the spare tire. If need be go to the junkyard and get one for $20.

There is a hole in the rear bumper by the license plate. There is an adapter piece that will connect through that and connect to the spare tire carrier. Some are flat at the end. Some are hexed. Look under the truck and see. If need be use a long screwdriver or a wrench or socket and long extension.

ATF+4 by definition is fully synthetic, so I'm not sure what you mean by non-synthetic, but yes, ATF+4 is what you need. You will probably need more than 4 quarts though! When I pulled the pan on my truck last november to do a fluid change, it took 6 or 7 quarts of that crap to fill it back up. You should replace the filter and gasket, and maybe a small dab of threadlock on each bolt! If the bolts are soaked in ATF, clean them with brake-cleaner... the last thing you want are greasy bolts!

For the glass, I agree with Crazy... junkyard would be dirt cheap, and they are simple to replace. Download the FSM if you need some help, or if you can wait a few days I need to re-track my front window... I'll do a writeup for you.

**EDIT** As for what else you should check for... just start it and let it warm up for 5-10 minutes. Make sure it builds good oil pressure.

all the other ones said full synthetic this one didnt so idk i didnt know lol first auto ive ever had and it happens to be a dodge lol and the auto zone guy told me 4 quarts is what i need. im assuming there will be some residual left in the torque converter...

and if i could figure out how to do the glass then i would go the 50 dollar route im just afraid with power windows to **** it up....i can wait for a write up

Well, there is lots of fluid left in the transmission... in the torque converter, valves and all the lines! The total capacity of the transmission is somewhere around 10 quarts! All you are doing is replacing what is in the pan. I wouldn't be surprised if you need more than 4 quarts though!

I'll do a write up then! If the weather is nice tomorrow, expect one by tomorrow evening! It is the front window right?
