Where do you live? I have one up for sale.

Otherwise you should look for an NP231D out of any Dakota from somthing like '88 to '00. I think '01 is when they became electronically controlled, but I could have that wrong. Or you can get one out of a Durango '98 to '00. Or a Ram.

'01 is the start of the electronic cases, you are correct.

check new process website (if they have one) they made transfer cases for most rigs, just a matter of matching up #. think ford dodge and chevy used the same cases, just a matter of bolt up, but that can be swapped.

I don't think new process has a website! I've looked and looked for one trying to find more info on their transfer cases with no luck. I can tell you from the info I found new process was bought out and the name changed to new venture gear, but new process was still a subset of nvg making only transfer cases (leaving the transmission building under the nvg name). In 2001, when the line of electronically controlled transfer cases came out I think they took the nvg name. The company was bought out again by Magna, Int. in '04 (I think), but the nvg name is still used.

Anyway, my point is I want to learn more about that company but can't find anything on them!

But one comment about your post, mazda7475, you have to match up letters too, not just numbers. Dodge, Jeep, Ford, and Chevy all used different input and output shafts to mate with each's transmission and driveshaft choices (mostly to match u joints), which is why their t cases are labled as D, or J, or C, etc. The internals are swappable (I have a 242J on my truck), but its not worth it as the 231D is a very easy to find transfer case.
