92 dakota, new to this place, help please.

Default 92 dakota, new to this place, help please.

hey everybody, im new to this forum, but im a active member of cumminsforum so i kninda know how it goes down. alright i got a 92 dakota for a work truck to just get around in. well. first off. headlights dont work, dash lights dont work, tailights are a negative, no radio, and well thats all i can think of. but, blinkers work, cigarette lighter works. what the heck is this things problem, second i think my alternator or battery is bad the meter is reading high, but i hope its not my alternator. because if i carge it with a jump start off my cummins it rads like 16v in the dakota and in the cummins its 14, so i think maybe my gaue is bad, could it just be a battry, (i have to jump it every time) so if anyone can help. please do so!

Welcome to DF. What kind truck you got the cummins in?

Sounds like for the lights it may be a bad switch, wires, ground. For the battery/alternator issue sounds like it is the alternator. Just remove it and take it, and the battery to most auto parts stores. They can test them for free.

the cummins is in a 2000 dodge ram 2500. good power house.

AND about the dakota, the fuses in the one row are all not getting power 6789 or something like that, and looking at the charts thats my problem, why am i not getitng power to that row is the whole power strip missing?>

you cant just say why is it this way and expect us to say because of this...

you need to troubleshoot, check your grounds, check your power source, for all we know you could have hit a deer and cut the wire that feeds the lights power in your harness, or it corroded and fell off?

you need to do more work before you tell us to fix it, or take it to a garage and open your wallett

welcome, we are here to help with opinions to help lead you in the right direction as is the reason most of us are here. dont be discouraged

as Crazy4x4RT said have the battery and alt tested. auto here has a machine they can roll out to your vehicle and test both the alt and battery at the same time.

make sure you pull out thise fuses that show no power and make sure the post hasnt fallen into the fuse box. i had this happen to me on another dakota

that sounds like a problem, the posts falling into the fuse box, because the row has no power, i just came here to see if it could be a common problem

thats why i came here, trust me, i trouble shiooted. i am a diesel engine mechanic, and yet i couldent figure out this stupid dakota. i just came here to see if it was a common problem thats all.

not sure about the 92 but it sounds like a computer voltage regulation problem. you alt is overcharging the battery cooking it. the high voltage is also frying your other 12 volt systems. the 92-96 guys would know more. if your computer is bad it may not come up on your codes.
