Default swap trans

looking to change trans. wondering if 92 2wd v6 auto trans. fit in 89 atuo 4x4 v6? if not what would?

It will bolt up to the engine but not the transfer-case. You would have to swap out tail shafts and tail housing from an another 42rh.

It is better to rebuild yours or find another one for a 4wd.

so any first gen auto trans for a 4x4 v6 will work? oh and thanks not really a auto trans guy like my 98 4x4 5sp ex cab 318. ypkamf

92-95 V6 4x4 from a Ram, Van, Dakota will work. You can also use a V8 transmission too. Same year.

pull the tail piece of the 2x4, insert the transfer case, put the tail piece of the 4x4 on the end. you will have to change from a rod linkage to a cable linkage or the other way. either replace the throttlebody gear to work with a cable or change the tranny setup to work with a rod. either way it's simple and your set because you got parts for both and there interchangeable. i would go with the cable setup off the 92.
