Question Air Bag Question

So I bought my 96 dakota with a blown airbag (low speed collision). I read the factory manual and it said that I needed to replace the clock spring whenever I change the airbag. Do I really need to do this, or is it just dodge trying to get me to spend a few more bucks? My only concern is that the new airbag will blow up in my face. BTW, I know the clock spring is good because when I disconnected the old airbag, I my horn worked.

I'm not to sure why they would say that. But my guess is because the clock spring can be sensitive to breakage. And a big explosion (Or bad car accident) may brake it. If you have to replace the bag. Then test out the horn and cruse controls (If you got them) and see if the stock clock spring is functioning.

Thanks for the info, I tried the horn and it worked so I'm guessing the clockspring is good, I will try hooking it up and hopefully the bag won't go off, those things are expensive!
