Default Need help again with truck!

I am still having troubles with my 95 3.9l Dakota. I have chased down almost everything I could to get truck running but still doesn't run right. If anyone could, I would appreciate some pics or info on grounding points for my truck. I got the truck as a project and am not sure if all grounds are present. Do these trucks have a main chassis ground and where would it be? I have done splice clean ups and replaced most electrical components including ecm and alternator. The truck runs fine for about 5 min then it slowly starts to run like it's out of time, sometimes it clears up and sometimes it just dies and wont start or run. I let it sit overnite and it does this all again. HELP!!!

I know you said you fixed some splices. Did you do the one just below the relay box? That is the typical one. For all splices and all ground locations look in the FAQ for the service manual. It has pics too.

How is the cat? It sounds like it could be clogged. The symptoms you describe are very similar.

I have replaced cat a little over a year ago with O2 sensor in front of cat. Just replaced water temp sensor and have done splices under power box. I fixed splices by using crimp connectors, should I soider splices? I am at my wits end with truck. Just a shame as motor was rebuilt 2 years ago and I just replaced transmission 4 months ago. New fuel pump and cat. My ford explorer has a ground strap that runs from the engine to the body and was wondering if these trucks have the same?

Yes these trucks have a body ground an engine ground. You can check for corrosion on them.

The manual does have all the details on the grounds. The file is to large for an email. Trust me I tried. The rapidshare is going to be your only choice. Just keep trying. If need be do it at night when not so busy.

Which ground are looking for. There is going to be 10 or more of them. Need to know EXACTLY which one you need to find. What circuit? What does it control?

Well I finally got my truck to throw a code and it's 27. I found that my O2 sensor had a bare wire and was giving me my first problems but now as I said I have code 27 injector circuit isn't responding. Could a injector go bad after siting 8 months or do I have another splice crapping out on me. Truck starts up cold fine but once it gets to operating temp it starts missing, pinging, back firing, and throws code 27. Could something else on this circuit be bad?

I have changed so far....
  • O2
  • Water temp
  • Distributor
  • Plugs
  • Oil pressure switch (broken during Dist.)
  • Crank position sensor
  • Transmission (started whole thing)
  • Cat 1 year ago
I also cleaned IAC and did splice under power box and found and fixed others along the way. Found that I had a ground in the wrong spot, for some reason the ground that bolts to the back of passenger head was not there but run to the front (by factory) to bolt to front of same head. I had it grounded to A/C bracket. Now truck runs better but still does same thing. Any help again would be much appreciated.
