Default 95 2.5L will not start

Ok, so I'm helping a friend out who's head gasket went out on a 95 2.5. He has owned the truck for 4 years and has done nothing to maintain it. I replaced the head gasket and got everything back together. The timing has all been set correctly (checked over that about 6 times) and it still wouldn't start. It will crank and crank and crank but won't fire. I started checking out the ignition system and found that the vehicle had never had plug wires, coil, cap, or rotor changed. At this point I had no spark. I have since changed out all of those things and the Hall Effect pick up and I get no spark from to the plugs. I have spark at the distributor cap end of the coil wire, but that seems to be where it has ended. I have tested out the Hall effect and get next to no spark when jumping the 2 and 3 sockets of the jack for the wiring harness for the Hall Effect and putting the coil wire close to ground. The only thing I can come up with is that the computer was putting out so much voltage to keep the extremely tattered ignition system running, that it fried the computer. Does anyone have any other ideas. There is plenty of fuel, that isn't the issue. I just don't seem to have enough power to complete the circuit from the coil all the way to the plugs. Please help!!!

Oh, and I've checked the under hood ignition fuses. I am also positive that I have fuel, and that I have air. I've looked at the manual and see that there are tons of fuseable links throughout the ignition system, but I figure that if on is blown then I wouldn't have spark at my coil wire. The only other thing I (and another guy) can come up with is the computer because it says that it controls the spark.

I haven't checked the splice that apparently goes bad, but would I have a spark, though weak, if it was just full of corrosion or if the asd was bad at all?

I can't believe no one has any suggestions here. I checked the splice, it's not in bad shape at all. In fact it was VERY clean. I'm gonna say the ASD relay is fine because I have plenty of fuel. Still no fire past the coil wire.

It sounds like a bad rotor. I have ready elsewhere about someone who replaced thier ignition parts and ended up with a defective rotor which caused a no spark problem. I know it sounds odd but if you have spark to the top of the distributor cap and not out to the plugs then it seems like a cap/rotor issue. have you tried reinstalling the old cap/rotor?

I just got it figured out a couple days ago, just haven't had the time to update this. The ground for the pick up only had one strand of wire left in the ground lug allowing for spark to be visible, just not strong enough to get past the coil wire and completing the circuit.
