Default Small lift for 1996 Dodge Dakota 2wd

Hello,

I have a lifted 99 ram, and recently bought a little beater 2wd dakota. Now, I am unlike most and do NOT like lowered trucks. So, I started fixing my 2wd dakota in a 4x4 type stance.

Push Bar (found upstairs at the dealership where I work)
Roll Bar (from S10 Baja)
15x8 Durango Rims painted black
LT235/75R15 All Terrains
Camo Interior
Dual Exhaust
Chrome Bumpers and trim

Now, I have recently been toying with the idea of lifting the truck to clear 31x10.50R15.
I had a 92 Dakota 4x4 and it cleared them stock. But its been 2 years and I dont remember its ride height compared to that of my 2wd.

I have been looking on ebay at coil spacers (my dakota has 1 ton helpers on the back from the previous owner, im guessing that lifted the back end 2 inches.).

Would a 2-3 inch spacer and possibly 2 inch blocks for the rear clear the 31's?

If anyone could help I would appriciate it. If I knew how to post pictures in the threads Id show you my dakota, I think it looks pretty good haha.

There are a ton of ideas in faq2 about lifting, but I think you might need a body lift to go with that suspension lift. You might have a hard time stuffing more than 2 inches of coil spacers up front. And also, look closer at your rear axle... blocks will lower it! Where the 4x4 is sprung over the axle, the 2wd is sprung under the axle. You can get longer shackles to drop the rear, but then you might have to shim the rear end to change your pinion angle!

haha wow im still getting used to the 2wd part. Forgot all about the difference in axles. Thanks haha. But I've been looking into a lot of different things, but to be honest never have been much interested in body lifts, dont like the gap you get, or having to lengthen various parts and connectors.

pretty much, if I can't do it for around $200, Ill just keep the 235's on it. The big money goes into my Ram haha

Ya 2in spacers up front will be the most you will get. And body lift will be the next best thing. As far as gaps the only one is behind the rear tires. But it is not bad. And they do sell gap cover kits.

To upload pictures.

You can create a photo album on this site, Go to "User CP" (Control panel). Near the top of each page in the black strip.

Or you can do a 3rd party website like www.photobucket.com or www.tinypic.com and use the photo link that uses the [IMG] tags.

Or upload it to the post by going to the "Go Advance" post tab next to "post reply" at the bottom then to "Manage Attachments" near the bottom. Then "Browse". Find th picture on your computer files. Then Upload.

Thanks for the info. I got into the Faq2 section and read up on the different options.

I found the Mr. Gasket coil spacer #1285 (same as summit) at the local advance auto.

The only question I have, is for the 2 inch lift, do I buy two? (one for each side) or 4 (two on each side, top and bottom of spring) for the 2 inch lift?

Im thinking that this is the route I am going to go, seeing as how this will allow 30x9.50 tires which I still think would look pretty good considering its a 2wd haha.

I'm also assuming that after installation, I would need an alignment. The Ram didnt need one when I put spacers on it because of being solid front axle.

Also, thanks for the info on posting pictures. Ill try and get a picture of my dakota up for you guys to see later tonight.

Yes you will need 4. 2 per side. One on top and one on the bottom For a 2in lift. They do also make 2in spacers as well. An Aliment is good to get done.

Just wanted to add, that this is my toy that replaced my 1992 Dakota.

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 ST. SLT exterior upgrade, 3 inch Flowmaster super 44 with dual 4 inch diesel tips. LT285/75R16 (33 inch) tires on Mickey Thompson Classic II. Brush guard with two 6 inch offroad lights, Dual 2 inch whips, 10 inch subs, diamond plate toolbox, 2inch level kit. 184,300 miles and runs like new.

When I bought it 2 years ago, it was a wimpy stock truck with 235/70R16 tires. It's come a LONG way.
