I have a 2005 Dakota 4.7 4x4. My gauge works fine until it gets down to 1/4 tank. At that point it goes up to the half mark slowly and stays there. Any suggestions??

Yes.

1) Post in the 2nd Generation Dakota forum, where the 2005 savvy folks are.

2) Rest is generic - Check your sending unit, check the wiring to the sending unit. Check the gauge itself since the stepper motor may be getting "funkified" on you. Check the wiring between the gauge cluster and the rest of the truck.

it may be the sender on the float arm. my gauge was fluttering so i just decided to replace entire pump and float assmbly with new denso and gauge worked good after that

This was the problem with my 93 Dakota, sending unit float arm bracket. One of the metal pieces was broken off. No Connect, no send signal to fuel gauge.

Check under that float arm bracket. I replaced this little fella and I now have fuel gauge working properly.

Interesting. I recently inherited my dad's (he's 80 now so doesn't drive as much) 96 Dakota and the gauge bounces at times while you drive. I'm assuming it's the sending unit or a float and I'll need to drop the tank.

Consider raising the bed to access the tank. That's usually the preferred method.

if the pump is original its over 20yo. replace the entire assembly. use blocks of wood between bed and frame rail on driver side is easiest
