I checked my pressure- It was around 28-30 psi. This made me reluctant to change the pump. I replaced the fuel filter and found a vacuum hose with a leak, replaced it, and also replace my distributor cap and rotor afte i found corrosion. It still seems to lose power when I apply heavy gas. COuld this still be the fuel pump even though its idle pressure was good?

It could be the pump still. It could be not shifting correctly it could be the Lockup converter locking up. Tons of possibilities.

Does it start up pretty quick? Sounds like your pump is going out or just old...watch it, sometimes a new fuel filter will overwork an old pump. Run the codes and see it anything comes up...then disconnect the batt cables for a few minutes and reconnect them. Resets the computer. Run some sea foam through a tank of gas.

sometimes it starts right up, other times i have to kick the tank. I was told that when if the pump was working, (even after being kicked and jolted to start), it should drive fine. So i believe that I do need a new pump, just that I am going to fix that and still have a problem with the acceleration. My check engine light works and is not on so I never got it read to see if it throw a code.

There can be sensor faults that don't set codes that trigger your CE light. Read the FAQ section at the top of this forum to find out to pull the codes...simple to do and gives you a baseline to work from when running a problem down. Sounds like a fuel pump is in your future...now to decide whether to do it yourself or go to a shop...the DIY approach requires dropping the tank or lifting the bed/box enough to gain access. All of my trucks have been so rusted/corroded underneath that I've always pulled the bed. Once you get access, it only takes about 90 minutes or so the first time...after that you can do it in 30 minutes.

My friends started saying i was out of gas because my gauge is broken, I knew i wasnt because i set my odomoter every time i fill up, and because i have an indicator light. BUt out of frustration I kicked my fuel tank and it started up. It has sputtered a couple times since then but hasnt died on me. I went ahead and replaced my plugs and wires because I already had them, but as i assumed that didnt fix it. Yesterday, I started noticing when I put the pedal down hard it seemed like no gas was getting to it. I took it out today and if i gradually put gas it seems to run ok, but if i need to speed up quickly, it bogs down real bad. I really need it to get to work/school. My question is what could it be. I assume it could be a fuel filter or pump. Any help would be appreciated.
Alot of people think thay have a fuel pump issue, I'd say its an air cleaner issue.
Take out your air cleaner, and take it for a spin.
If it clears up then you get an air filter instead of a $200.00 fuel pump.
Try it
