3.9 question
I just got an 89 dakota 3.9 2wd it has 83000 on it my parents bought it new and now its mine I was wondering if it'd be up to towing my car on a trailer to and from the track on weekends and if there is anything i can do to get some more power out of it with out breaking the bank
Yes it can. But efferently is the question. It depends on what kind of car and trailer. How much it all weighs and how far you have to go. Most trailers are going to be around 2,000lbs. Most race cars will be 3,000-4,000lbs. So the best will be around 5,000lbs all together. The tow rating probably is going to around 5,000lbs. So your at your limits. Do you have an automatic transmission, if so do you have an extra transmission oil cooler? Do you have a hitch? What rear end gears you got?
This might be a dumb question, but how do you know what rear end gear ratio you have?
I have a 96 slt club cab 4x2 4 speed auto and want to tow 5600 lbs but not if it will ruin the tranny or rear end. thanks.

Standard ratio for 5 spd manual was 3.2.
I have towed 6000 with my 95 5.2L auto trans....with an electric brake controller, of course.
my truck is an auto the trailer is a 1 car trailer and my car is a gutted 87 camaro im not sure on the transmission cooler but i work at a parts store so if i need one i can order it for next to nothing as for a hitch its just a regular square hitch
For trailer weights check this post I just made. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ing-chart.html
