Default Camshaft question need help please

I have a 96 Dakota 5.2L v8. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find directions and pictures for a camshaft swap. Im mechanically inclined im just curious is to what all is involved before I make a purchase. Also would changing the pushrod length help me out if I go with 1.7 Harland Sharp rockers. Thanks

The FSM available in faq2 would give a teardown. But basically, you'll have to tear down the front of the engine all the way down to taking off the timing chain. Then you'll have to tear down the top of the motor to get off the intake and valve covers to get the pushrods and lifters out. Then you'll have to remove the camshaft retainer, pull the camshaft out, slide the new one in with plenty of break in oil covering it, and reassemble.

Oh, and one more thing... Keep in mind that if you swap cams, even if its mild, you will need new valve springs. So you may as well replace the seals and guides as well!

ok I appreciate it. Im leaning towards the 1.7 roller rockers from Harland Sharp. Instead of the cam swap. Fits my budget a little better. I just wont get as much hp
