95 dakota Transfer Case issue

But just to rule out the linkage adjustment as a possibility, loosen the linkage, put the transfer case in 4Hi, put the shift lever in the 4Hi position, and tighten the linkage. Should only take about 5 minutes to adjust. You'll need a 9/16 wrench to turn the transfer case shifter.
That was the plan for tomorrow...I gotta remove the skidplate to be able to better access the linkage and check the level, and it's too dark to see well now...

well, I tore it out and it's in the shop...Hopefully they can tell me if its useable or if i should junk it...

ah it was junk..got a different one...being run dry it looked like someone had taken a handful or rocks and dumped them in there and then drove it around for a month. Hell after one week the fluid that I did put in there looked like liquid anti-seize, all gray and full of silver shavings...
