will my plans work?
Regarding 46RE transmission swaps. I need your advice. Here's my story. I have a 2001 Ram 1500 SLT with a 5.9 gas & 46RE. I built up a stroker 408 and replaced the stock 5.9 Magnum. BTW the 46RE in the truck is fresh and problem free. When I put the 408 in I "unplugged" all engine related EFI & computer functions because I installed a Projection III EFI and most other computers items. I wanted to keep in simple. The first thing that happened as I had no 4th or TC lock up. I studied the factory manual and wiring diagrams, tried many different jumper combinations and had no luck, so I bought a core and had it TCI'd. Works great. Now I have a 1969 Valiant rolling chassis that I want to put the 5.9 and 46RE into. I have a small fortune in the 46RE and would like to use it. I don't mind if I have to mount a couple of switches on the dash. What can I do to make this 46RE work in an old school car? Thanks all, Brad
I have one more question. Will a 360 from a dodge ram van fit in my dakota? I was just wondering if they made the 360 for the ram van different than that of a ram 1500.
May be a dumb question. But questions are the only way to learn.

I recentaly pulled the stock 5.9 (gas) and 46RE out of my 1500 and replaced it with a 408 stroker & 518 TCI transmission. I want to put the 5.9 & 46RE in my 69 Valiant project. How can I get the 46RE to work properly without the computer? (obdii). Thanks all
That would be a sweet project. The 46re is electronic and controlled by computer. For that specific transmission you have 2 choices. The stock style computer that works the engine as well and transmission control. The next option is a aftermarket stand alone transmission control computer. Just go to google spend some time searching.
the rad from a 318\360 will bolt right in to your front, the only problem i found was the 318 was wider than my 3.9 rad so i had to cut some metal off the drivers side with a grinder, only takes a minute. it's like a flange that goes out against the 3.9 rad.
i put an alum rad in and got rid of that plastic tank rad. more expensive but worth every $.
i should add that i went from an 89 3.9 rad to a 96 318, so i'm not sure you will have to do any cutting.

I also have a 89 with a 3.9, Can u tell me what all you had to do to do the la 3.9 to magnum swap. I've ran across a totaled 99 dakota with a 5.2 magnum with 158,000. Im thinkin about buying the whole truck and swappin everything over. The tranny bad in the totaled truck but I just had my tranny freshly rebuilt and beefed up. It should work and hold up to extra hp and torque right? I can get it for pretty much a steal. is it worth it and what should I watch out for, how hard is it, and what kind of wiring do I need to do. I'm well mechanically inclined but a amateur at wiring so thats the part I'm really skepticle about... Please help
