ah snap...
i started of with the automatic and the 318(unsure on the transmission model) which the automatic was only offered with the v8 that year no manual. i took the old trans out and put the new trans in(yes the flywheel is the right one, I'll go and check again to be 100% sure) the manual trans came out of a 96 ram v6(as far as i know they only put the nv3500 in them) the crossmember didn't match up because it the bolts on the auto tranny mount were front to back not side to side.(its kinda hard to explain)
So the Rams must use a different transmission mount! My '95 2wd thats sitting in the garage torn completely apart has 2 mounting holes for the tranmission... one in front of the other. The nv3500 I have thats a 2wd transmission has the same mounting pattern. My 4x4 has 4 mounting holes for the transmission in a square pattern. The nv3500 I have for it has the same mounting pattern. Is this how the Rams is?
So I don't remember what you said you did for a crossmemeber, but what you should have done is used a 2wd Dakota transmission mount and it would have fit up there without any trouble.
Yes, just leave the battery unplugged for an extended period of time.
i tried to fit my old transmission mount on the new transmission, especially since its only 8 months old. the mount on my manual trans is a side by side bolt hole mount( there is a picture of a crossmember crazy4x4rt put up a while ago in reference to one of my questions. what i did for a crossmember though is i found one out of a durango (i'll get pics tomorrow its to dark out right now). i tried to straighten it out but i guess i'm not stronger enough to swing a hammer...lol i leveled the transmission out with (get this) washers. one thing i did notice though is the floor in my truck doesn't go as high up as the manual trucks or the 4x4s. so if i were to level out my transmission i would probly have to cut the center of my floor and reshape it, which is something im going to look into
ok...i first started this project not knowing a whole lot. one thing i wish i knew when i started this was that the ram and dakota tranny mounts where different, i got a new one coming tomorrow. i checked teh flywheel and it is the correct one. i also checked the code via the key switch method(since i don't have obdi on my truck and i got 12, 45, 37, and 55, and i know from another dodge i previously owned that 12 is the vehicle not being started since the battery was last disconnected and that 55 is the end of the fault codes. what are the other two? i looked up on troublecodes.net and they said 37 is the ptu switch?( i think it was 37 or 35, i'm leaning towards 35 which is but i'll have to check again) and 45 is the overdrive solenoid?
There is a link to the codes list in faq.

There is no code 45 on that list or in the FSM. You might want to double check that one. I just looked up a generic chrysler OBDI code list, and it listed 45 as turbo boost limit exceeded?! But oddly, I think mine gets 45 though as well... its been a while since I ran them.
But its going to be normal for you to get 37. 37 is the torque converter lockup switch... you don't have a torque converter anymore. Thats just the difference between the auto and manual PCM. The PCM should run fine, and that code should never turn the check engine light on.
Also, 12 has been generally accepted as the start of codes. I have yet to run my codes and not see 12 at the start... same for everyone else on the forum.

Ok... here we go. I just found this list...
http://dodgeram.info/Engine-Gas/OBDI/pcm_fault_code.htm
This lists 45 as transmission OD solenoid... you and me no longer have a transmission overdrive solenoid. That code will be normal too from now on.
