I have a 1992 dakota sport 4x4. It has the 318 in it auto tranny. I am wondering what transmissions will interchange with this. Everyone is telling me 92 only. We use it only for mud runs and what not. The stock one only goes forward even in park. I have a early 90s ram charger with a 318 not sure if this will work. I need one that will bolt to the stock transfer case. It will not be used on road only off roading so speeds will never be over 40. Any help for me here?

Welcome to DodgeForum!
Any A518 (46rh) will fit from whenver they started making them until '95. You can't go '96 and newer because of the added electronics for OBDII. You can look at Dakotas, Rams, Ram Vans, Ram Chargers, etc. You can't use one out of a jeep though... the starter is on the wrong side of the bellhousing.
But if thats the case, you can always look for an old 727. The a518 is a 727 with electronic overdrive and electronic torque converter lockup, so you'd be missing those two features and your computer will throw meaningless codes (the CEL won't stay on though). But it would allow you to broaden your search.
