Default NV3500 rebuild question

hey all

wanta start off by say love the forum...been reading the dakota forums for a while now and have learned a lot of things about my truck i either had wrong or plain didn't know

i just put my 95 v8 4x4 Dakota back on the road after more then a few years of it sitting around
year ago before i stopped driving it i had a xfer case chain issue where the chain stretched and wore through the case and i replaced the main part of the case with one from a 231-J
no money at that point to get a new chain so the case is chainless

so okay this brings me to my question
my nv3500 is starting to make noise, and i'm pretty sure it needs at the very least an input shaft bearing....noisy in all gears but 4th

so...anyone cracked one of these things open? the manual is all special tool this and special jig that

ultimately i'd like to replace what bearings i can in the tranny but i don;t know if this possible for me to do in my basement or not

any input would be fantastic, whether it helps or not, cause well....i'm loney

thanx in advance

Welcome to DodgeForum!

The manual wasn't joking. The nv3500 needs a specific jig to hold it while you take it apart and put it together. From what I've heard, the shift forks are a real PITA to work with!

If you really want to tackle this yourself, you'll be a lot better off getting the tools you need.
