V6 truck is here. Quick question.
SO it is an 89 dakota 4x4. was a v6 engines out already. easy swap. but with my truck being an automatic and this one the manual, what flywheel and clutch would i need to get. and maybe what could i do to temperarily beef up the transmission for security lol. its hard not to get in the throttle lol.
Can you refresh my memory on everything your working with at this point? Its hard to keep track of everyone! In fact, it would be good if you could make a signature or put the info in your profile in the top right corner of all your posts.
ok the bad truck. 1992 dakota 5.2 magnum, bad a518. 4x4
the truck i just recieved. 1989 dakota v6 with ax15. 4x4
the engine is gone from the v6 and i am putting the 318 in it. transmission will be the ax15 thats already in it for a while. will have to granny it but thats fine. i have everything for the engine so that is a breeze.
The question i have is, with the v8 coming off an automatic, i dont have the flywheel or clutch for the v8, what would i need to get for it??

Ok.... this changes things! In your other thread, you said the new-to-you v6 was going to be a '93!
So if its in fact an '89, the transmission thats in it is not actually an AX-15. Its a New Process a535 (also reffered to as an NV2500). It should still work, just thought you should know.
Now, back when I thought it was a '93, I figured it would be an extremely simple swap! Just change engines and throw in the extra 2 injector wires. Now you are going to have to change out the entire wire harness because the '89 v6 is TBI and the '92 v8 is MPI. At least its a manual, so you don't have to worry about wiring an automatic transmission, so you might be able to get away with just the new engine harness. But I'm not familiar enough with the pre-magnum wiring.
As for a flywheel and clutch, you will need to get a flywheel off of a or for a 5.2L Magnum v8. Its very important to get the magnum flywheel because the LA 5.2L flywheel won't have the crankshaft position sensor holes. As for a clutch, you will need to find out the input shaft spline count and diameter to make sure a v8 magnum clutch will fit the input shaft of the nv2500. You will also need a pilot bearing with a sleeve. As far as I'm aware, the dealership is the only place to get one.
For the clutch, you will have to do research. Call around... maybe the drivetrain.com guys would have answers for you. For all other auto to manual swap questions, read this (most of it won't apply, but it will explain quite a bit)...

a guy just called me and has a good looking and drivin 1993 dakota with the v6 in it, but hes taking the engine out and offered me the truck, its 4x4 and has a stick tranny, so what are the odds that tranny will run for a while? im not sure what tranny it is, but the truck is free, compared to spendin money on the tranny.... would it be worth it to swap the engine???

Well don't give up yet!! You should have all the parts to make it work minus the flywheel and clutch and related parts. I was just saying its going to be more work than I thought back when I thought it was a 1993.
thing is im really low on money. 80 bucks a week is ****. I guess im just gonna start lookin around at it see what i would have to do...im guessing id have to do some custom wiring of some sort. any help or advice would be awesome.
and just a flywheel for the v8 magnum.
and the clutch is just something id need to research. hmmm...
