Default 1996 Tranny question

Hey yall....

I just picked up a nice 96 4x4 dakota with automatic transmission and 3.9, and its time for new tranny fluid.

The last owner told me that he diddnt want to do this because you have to remove the front drive shaft, but i crawled under there today and it looks like id have enough room to pull the pan on that thing.

My other question, is what about the transfer case?? What kind of fluid does it take, and how do i change that??

Thanks guys :-)

There are 30mm drain and fill plugs on the back of the transfer case. The drain plug is on the lower left side when looking from the back and the fill plug is above and to the right of it. The transfer case takes ATF+4.

And yes, there should be enough room to pull the transmission pan without removing anything else first.

I'm doing a transmission flush on sunday and I looked and I would have to drop my y pipe to get at the bolts on the back side of the pan
