Please Help Fellow Dakota lovers! Tranny Problems!
so im working on my 95 dakota 4x4 and i cant get it to shift out of second, i thought it was the valve body so i replaced that and no dice, is there a way to maybe test the speed sensors with a volt meter or something? please help
OBDI doesn't have a limp-in mode. Thats an OBDII thing.
And it won't be a speed sensor or any other sensor either, cause the '95s are hydraulically controlled in 1st through 3rd gear.
My best guess is the governor valve is shot or the throttle valve is shot or maybe just mis-adjusted.

Read through pages 101-114 of section 21 of the '95 FSM. This is the transmission diagnostic chart. Read through all the possible causes listed under your transmission's symptoms and do all the corrections you can short of pulling out the transmission. If nothing fixes it, thats how you can tell if its one of the valves.
