Default stock exhaust piping, 1992 5.2

SO I am considering what exhaust setup to run when I get around to making this thing SOUND like its got a V8 under the hood.

I was gonna just buy the Dynomax Ultraflo catback (2.75" pipe) because its only $130. But im thinking that would be too quiet for my taste.

I am now thinking the best setup to gain the sound I want and maybe a little top end without losing tourqe is a Aeroturbine muffler on stock pipe because they sound awesome on V8s and running a side exit tip.

Not interested in running duals, I don't want to lose all my tourqe or spending extra money getting more pipe fabricated.

I really just need to know what the stock pipe diameter is. Yes, I searched and didn't find the info.

You can use less restrictive cats and mufflers but never change the size pipe to prevent torque loss. Unless you have changed the stock cam.

5.2 has 3" from cat to muffler.<-- Keep this same. After muffler can go up to 3.5" but 3" is max I would go. This will change your torque curve to a higher RPM and put your range outside of daily driving.

My ZJ came with 2.25 and I put 2.5 under there and have hated it ever since. I need to go back to 2.25 between cat and muffler.

Oh I must have typed the OP in a confusing way. I DO have the 5.2 V8, it just doesn't sound like it because of weak stock exhaust.

oh ok...open down pipe is obnoxiously loud as a fore warning. i was driving around today without my exhaust and couldn't hear myself think...lol

straight pipe would probly be the best and most original way to get the pure v8 power sound.

MY V8 sounds like a V8 with the stock exhaust. I do, however, have an exhaust leak between the right manifold and the Y-pipe. It is loud when I accelerate but relatively quiet while cruising. I'm not going to fix it because it sounds nice...

I have a 5.2 in my truck. With the cat removed. Running a Flowmaster 40. all stock pipe. Sounds nice at idle, and has the lovely v8 growl when you jump on it. Will be pulling it soon to replace with headers and and duals.
