Cruise Control - Steering Column Position

Cruise Control - Steering Column Position
94 Dakota Magnum...
Cruise had been working for several weeks. Tonight it stopped working except when steering wheel/column in the lowest postition (towards knees).
Then with that position the cc stopped working after about 10 minutes...
Anyone know if there is a cc column sensor (possibly to keep it from engaging when the wheel is in the most upright postion?) Where it is located on the steering column/dash. Can it be bypassed?
As always thank again for everyones ideas, suggestions and humor!

If your sure the steering column is your culprit then it must be the wires, a nearly broken one is somewhere.
The most common problem of CC not working is a vacuum leak. Check all hoses. A leak can cause it to be an intermittent problem.
If needed check the 1st Generation Dakota FAQ in this section for a link to download the factory service manual. It has a section dedicated just for the CC, And how to diagnose it.
