Default new here few questions :)

ok i bought a 94 dakota 3.9l 5 speed extended, real clean, ext. cab. 160,000 miles. Paid $1400 1st question is was that a pretty fair price, i felt it was. second is i know there is alot of timing chain talk with these engines, i was a master ford tech for seven years before i got out of the biz and i really dont hear anything that sounds alarming with the chain. I hear a little noise but i would half expect that from a v6 push rod motor. Should i just replace it to be safe. If so is there a brand anyone reccomends over another, thanks ahead Joey.

Welcome to DodgeForum!

That sounds like a fair price to me! These trucks are like gold in my area! Its hard to find them for under $2000.

But as for the noise, if it doesn't sound like the chain is slapping, it should be ok. If you do replace it, go with a double roller.... they're stronger.
