Radio problems
The previous owner of my 95 dakota had a system in and put in the stock parts before i bought it. After about a week of blasting the radio my front speakers stopped working. The speakers were fine but they didn't have power going to them and if i turned the radio up they would make a little noise. Since one of my rear speakers was making a weird noise when there was a lot of bass i replaced it with one of the front speakers. It sounded great but when I turned up the volume it stopped working.
I noticed that it says 4 ohms on the rear speakers, and 8 ohms on the front speakers. Could this be damaging the radio? and is there anyway to fix it?

The factory radio should be able to handle a 4 ohm speaker, so I doubt thats the problem. The internal amp could still be bad though. I'm not too familiar with the factory radio, but there might be fuses in the back of it that blew.
Have you checked all wire connections are good, and all fuses are good? There is a 5 amp fuse in the power distribution center under the hood that could be bad as well as fuse 12 in the fuse box.

The 8 ohm speakers don't have marks for + and - If it was wired backwards could it cause problems?
There are plugs where the last guy plugged his speakers into with like 4 wires going into them. The rear speakers are spliced into them but the front speakers are not. I would like to rewire all the speakers but i need to know what each wire coming out of the radio goes to.
I'll have to look at the radio and check for fuses in the back.
if the speakers were wired backwards they would sound horrible. i've done this plenty of times to find the wiring setup on speakers.

the factory radios don't have fuses in them they use the fuses under the dash and in the hood.
you would be better off just getting new speakers for it than using the old ones

Higher resistance won't harm an amp, but if you go too low it could fry the amp. So the speaker being 8 ohms is not the issue.
And if you wire a speaker backwards, it runs backwards... its called phasing in acoustics. Two speakers wired backwards are phased 180 degrees apart. It won't hurt the speaker, but it won't sound right.

It sounds to me like the radio is done. But if you have a nice set of speakers, you don't really want to power them with a factory radio!! Get a nice aftermarket radio and it will sound uncomparably better.

Thanks, I'll start looking for a radio.
