Default Planning my "weekend" lookin for advice on what to do to the truck

Good Morning Forum!

So I am planning my "weekend" ( i have monday and tuesday of work) and wanted to give err body the run down and look for some suggestions.

First plan, is finish up the VSS on my taurus (see this for info https://dodgeforum.com/forum/off-top...ml#post2179139 ) SUCHA headache but in my mind i have a solid plan to get it finished. I hope this doesn't take me too terribly long.

Next i want to do an oil change on the truck cuz i bought it about 3 weeks ago now and it hasn't been done so it needs to be.

I also want to open the rear diff up and take a look since it's making noise (see https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...elerating.html)

ISSUE I WANT TO INSPECT
One thing i noticed today on my way back from a meeting, is when the truck was reaching about 50MPH it would kind of stumble and jump like it was cutting out for half a second. I do know there is an issue with the Neutral Safety Switch failing so I am wondering if that could be the cause. I need some insight on this.

Also I have noticed for a while that if the truck is under way if i let off the accelerator and step back on the RPMs will go to a certain point (for the sake of example lets says 2300 RPMs ) then drop down one point on the tach (so from 2300 to 2200). Just seems strange to me and I feel it is worth mentioning.

What should i do to check these issues out?

Thanks Forum, hoping to get a lot done this "weekend"!

the RPM difference is your torque converter locking up again, its suposed to do this and shouldn't be a problem. it will also unlock if you going up a hill. If it where locking and unlocking with out any reason like you on a level surface at a steady speed and the tack starts to jump a few hundred RPM then it might be time to take a coloser look at things. start small ie add fluid befor going big ie rebuiling the trannie

Bkilla,
Thanks for the response. I am glad to hear that what i am experiencing with that is fairly normal. I do feel it a touch when driving too, but it sounds like all of which is normal.

Any idea on the quick stop or stumble if you will? It feels like all power cuts and comes back after half a second. Is weird :-P

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the neutral safety swithch is going to have nothing to do with your stumble. that would have more to do with not being able to start the truck. check your cap and rotor, plugs and plug wires, the PCV valve is about 5 bucks and help out with alot of my "its almost a problem but not big enough to want to fix" issues. also check your vacuume lines. Start small and work big.
