Default N00B question, PCV Valve, Sorry :-0

Hi forum,

Sorry this is kinda of a n00b question but I wont learn if I don't ask.

I want to inspect/change the PCV valve. I did some reading on the PCV system and what it does and why it is so important to vehicles. Who knew that back before PCV systems vehicles dripped oil on the road and that was the norm! :-o

Anyway, the questions I have are this:

1) Is this the pcv vale?

2) How do I change it?

Again, sorry for the basic question, but hopefully this is an easy one to answer. I will learn slowly but surely!

Thanks Forum!

Yes that is the PCV. To change it you have to try to get it out of that grommet in the valve cover(sometimes a real pain), and buy a new one and put it back in.

Default easy as 1, 2, 3?

Will,

Thanks for the reply. So i would pull the top hose off to start. does the grommet and PCV pull out of the case as a single unit or is the grommet attached to the case and the PCV pulls out of it. Is the bottom of the PCV not attached by anything?

Would a R and R look something like this?

1 Pull the top hose
2 Pull the PCV out
3 Install new
4 Reattach Hose
5 Profit

thanks!

they are 2 separate pieces, and they will both come out of the valve cover, but all you need to get out is the PCV. The only thing that it is attached to is the hose on the top. You should be able to wiggle it back and forth while you pull up on it and get it out. I hope this is helpful to you.

frist things first, grab some chemical cleaner of some kind I like brake cleaner, spay that area down and wipe it with a shop rag or one of the misses old towles (one that she wont care about not the one for company or some shuch bull ^%$#) then do the Mr. Spock with one had on the base of the PCV valve so as to keep the Gromet from comming with it out of the valve cover. Give a twist pull motion and pop goes the weasel. then do the twist and shout with the PCV and the hose and it should come apart. To re assemble atach the PCV to the gromet then the hose.

Good advice from all so far...make sure the engine's cool when you do this and def clean it up with a rag first...using a little WD-40 where the valve pops into the rubber grommet helps sometimes, too. Pull firmly while twisting. Pop a new one in and Bob's yer uncle.
