Default problem!!

im trying to hook my alternator up on my 1996 dodge dakota 3.9L v6 and i have no idea where the wires go on the alternator i just put a different engine in it and i forget where all the parts and wires go could any one help me? be much appreciated

What ever engine you put in it you need to find out how it is wired up. Also I will move this to the 1st Generation Dakota sub-forum.

i have a 1996 dakota that came with a 3.9 i am putting a 3.9 out of a 1994 ram 1500 it should all hook up the same shouldn't it? i have 2 wires coming off the alternator harness and a plastic hook up that bolts on the alternator i just need to know where those two wires go

Just use your old electronics and intake. And just use the Rams long block.

the engines already in im just having ground problems the ground from the back of the engine to the truck has melted and i cant find the problem im thinking it has something to do with the 2 alternator wires

there is 2 black wires one has a peach color stripe down it and the other has a white stripe i know that the one with the white strip is a ground but have no clue what the peach color strip goes 2

Why not use your old alternator which you know hooks up correctly?
You can download the wiring diagram from the service manual that is located in the FAQ2.

Is the wiring from your Dakota or the Ram?

In the service manual I can see a Black and white stripe wire that is a direct ground.
But no black with a peach stripe.

the wiring is from the dakota and the alternator is from the dakota but i guess its a white stripe that got tinted some how but there is 3 of them and the ground wire on the back of my engine got melted some how and im thinking its one of those 3 wires theres 2 thick black and white ones and one skinny one im trying to explain as good as i can sorry lol

OK i have figured out the alternator problem and now the engine wont turn over there's 2 grounds on the negative battery terminal the thin one is hooked up and im having a problem finding where the thick one goes in the diagrams it shows it going back into the positive wires but that cant be right

It may be the cable that goes to the engine. If i remember right it goes on a water pump bolt or that acc bracket. It will be a stud like bolt.
