stubby 14mm ratcheting wrench made my top two bolts a breeze apart from that it was very straight forward for me.

If you blew it up literally, you may have had problems before or stressed something inside by staying on it. TC's are not standard tranny's, they won't take as much abuse and keep on ticking. Maybe you can find a good, used low-mileage replacement.

Yes I agree. A bendable one helps too.

Also replace U-Joints and straps/retainer bolts.

why is nothing ever easy for me!!!??? first 5 nuts came off in about 7 minutes. The top passanger side nut is in the hardest to reach spot in the world to put torque on!
you can get a wrench on it, but there's no space to turn it. could get a socket on it, but ratchet won't fit in the space. tried one of those super bendy extentions, but couldn't bend tight enough. finally used a wobbly end to a 90 degree socket that gave me just enough torque to crack it loose...
then the guy who had the truck before me felt that it was a good idea to not replace a broken bolt for the driveshaft clamp, but intead weld the clamp on... so ya that was fun

FYI, if you remove the bezel and shift boot cover from the 4x4 shifter (in the cab), it gives you easier access to the top transfer case bolts.
