Default Oil Pressure!!!

Sometimes my oil pressure runs real good and sometimes it runs low(while driving down the road). I have already put a new oil pressure switch on it and that didnt do anything. I was wondering if my oil pump is fixin to go out and if I need to go ahead and change it? Also how hard is it to get the oil pan off? Do I have to take anything off it to get pan off so I can change my pump?

It is typical of higher mileage engines to run low oil pressure. One guess I always had for the low psi is a bad ground to the sensor. But I'm not 100% on that.

It is best to get a mechanical gauge and verify the pressure.

My truck has 203k miles on it, and my oil pressure is great. Mileage doesn't matter, its how well it was maintained.

i think in a haynes manual it tells you the lowest oil pressure allowable, and it was like 8 psi or sompthing like that so as long as u have oil pressure i think u should be fine, what does ur truck run at idle all warmed up? mine runs at about 20-25psi

It stays between the tolerable lines. Most of the time it runs real good(above half way on gauge), but every once in a while it will go to the low side. It was just something I was wondering about. I will check the ground to the switch and see about that. Thanks for all the replys!!!

This happens to me too. I notice it happening when I stop my truck, maybe the oil's traveled a bit to the front (away from the sensor).
