Finding this site was god send. I was under the truck today looking around at what fun is in store for me tomorrow and most of the concerns I had were pretty much answered already.

I kills me to do this work because the hydraulic line rusted out. I already bought a used rack but I have to ask. Is there any place to purchase just the hydraulic lines on the rack? Not the rubber lines from the power steering pump, but the ones that go across the rack itself. They are metal. If you can't buy'm where can I purchase a flange tool? I couldn't find either.

Aren't those lines across the rack for the air pressure release for the dust covers (boots)?

 

According to the Part Manual there is no replacement part. It is all one unit.

For a flaring tool it depends on your area. Search for tool stores ect. If needed tons of web sites to buy from. www.summitracing.com should have some.

 

There is a line running between the two dust covers. Never gave it much though what was in there! The lines I'm referring to definitely carry fluid because one rusted through. I don't know if its a return line a feed line. I've really never taken apart a rack and pinion to see how they really work. I'll probably do this with my old one if I can't find a way to replace the tubing.

Its raining so i pushed this project aside for now.

 

thanks. I"ve been to a dozen or more sites. I will try summit. This is a special flare at the end. The part the mates with the fitting nut is 45 or 38 degree bevel - that's not a problem. The side that mates with the rack is perfectly flat like what you see if you ever replace the water supply to your toilet! I've tried some make-shift flaring but my skills aren't good enough or my brain isn't creative enough.

I guess the fitting nuts are impossible to get also. Mine came right off with a couple days of hitting them with Buster stuff.

 

You should be able to pick up the double flaring tool at a local Sears Hardware or some place like a Harbor Freight. This looks like the one I picked up at Sears.

I take it your 95 is a 2WD?

 

did any one ever try this, i need to replace one of the lines its has a small hole in it. also the sears link broke any idea if that tool actually works?

 

I didn't try the tools. I threw in the towel and bought a rack and pinon for $75 bucks at the junk yard. It been working pretty well ever since.
