Wondering if anyone here has rebuilt their own alernator and if it is a decent savings by doing it yourself? I haven't done extensive searching for our vehicles, but it does look like there are several companies that sell alternator rebuild kits for various brand alternators.
I never have done it. If I remember right they are cheep like $20 or so. The manual has the rebuild section on it. If you got the time, go for it. Sounds like fun. I wish I could offer more advice. Maybe check Youtube for a tutorial video.
As long as you have the right tools it's a easy job, at most if you take your time 2 hours to do everything (that included cleaning) if you rush (I wouldn't take that route) 45 min. If I can trust my 10 year old nephew to do it, it's gotta be easy
Most part stores carry them, but if you had to there is a company in West Haven, CT called UPE give them a shout, they always did a bang up job for me. Either that or check with some of the performance stores in your area.
