Need help with this quick!
i feel stupid for not being able to figure this out...
trying to pull the factory fan off and i can't get it.
according to the service manual -
(4) The thermal viscous fan drive/fan blade assembly
is attached (threaded) to water pump hub shaft
(Fig. 48). Remove fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly
from water pump by turning mounting nut counterclockwise
as viewed from front. Threads on
viscous fan drive are RIGHT HAND. A Snap-On 36
MM Fan Wrench (number SP346 from Snap-On
Cummins Diesel Tool Set number 2017DSP) can be
used. Place a bar or screwdriver between water
pump pulley bolts (Fig. 48) to prevent pulley from rotating
i can't figure out how to get anything in there large enough to hold the pully...
how have you guys done it???
i even pulled the radiator for extra room

First most of us leave the belt on to help hold it some. I made a tool out of a straight piece of steel with two bolts sticking out of it that slips into two of the holes on the pulley and holds it while I put a spud wrench on the nut to spin it off. Some people have used chisels to hit the nut and get it broken free also. It is a PITA.
i ended up building a tool out of 1/4 inch plate and 2 bolts.. was a huge pain, but worked really well.. actuall it's so big i should be able to make it multifunctional as a lot of needed tools in 1
i don't have a torch/welder/grinder, so i bought a 36mm combo wrench for the fan hub nut and used a prybar on the WP pulley bolts to hold it.
found when the plugs are out, that this makes a good way to turn the engine over.
