Default A/C pulley

I have a '94 Dakota 2wd 5.2 V8. I started my truck this morning to warm it up.
After a couple of minutes, I get ready to jump in and I hear a low click noise.
I lift up the hood and notice that the a/c compressor pulley was spinning, then stop, then spin, then stop.
So, looks like I'll be changing my plans for the weekend. Is it possible to change the pulley? or am I looking at a new compressor? Thank you in advance for any response.

Did you have the heat set to defrost? If so the clicking and the starting/stopping was the clutch on the compressor engaging and disengaging and is normal.

The compressor will automatically cycle in defrost regardless of the A/C switch.

You are right...I did have the defroster on. That must have been what I was seeing and hearing. I was already pricing compressors. Thank you for setting me straight on this.
