Dodge Dakota V8 and transmission swap
I have a 1993 Dodge Dakota LE with a 3.9L V6 and automatic transmission. I am swapping out the 3.9L V6 with a 5.2L V8. I was wondering if I could use the transmission from the V6 with the V8? Also, can I use the PCM from a manual in an automatic?
Yes you can use the V6 transmission with the V8 but it wont last to long. Think of it Dodge didn't put it behind the V8's for a reason. So finding a V8 transmission (46rh) is your best bet unless you want to do it again on day. Do it right the first time.
No you can not use a manual PCM to control the Auto. The OD and TCC is controlled by the computer.

I talked to a transmission shop in my area and this is what hey said: a 1993 Dodge Durango 4x4 with a 5.2L A500 4 speed automatic overdrive transmission is available either standard or Heavy Duty.
The Heavy Duty Utility Package includes a heavy duty band, TransGo Reprogramming and Utility torque converter. your cost is $1690.00 exchange
The stock Package with torque converter is $1380.00 exchange
This is the transmission they recommended. Would the A500? Is this a good price for a rebuilt transmission or should I keep looking?
