for those that dont remember me or my truck its a 96 4x4 with the 3.9 i spun a rod bearing and i fixed it then it threw the same rod through the cylinder wall 8 days later i found an engine in the junk yard back at home for $650 but im on base 4 hours away w/o transportation so i cant see the engine smoke from the replacement motor it could be because it was sitting a while or old fluids or even worn rings i don know im not there to see it in person should i tell them i want it anyway or move on even though i couldnt find any other engines that are stock replcements in my budget

I say rebuild. Hopefully you didn't throw away the 1st engine and can rebuild.
Maybe the smoke will clear up. Like you said it is possible old fluids or it was a roll over and oil got into the combustion chambers. I'm assuming the junkyard told you it smoked. See if they can leave it running for a while. 15-20min to see once it is warm it will clear up.
