1st Gen. vs. 2nd Differences
I totalled my 1999 Dodge Dakota SLT 4x4 5 speed (AX-15) with a 3.9L V6. My question is; will my tranny and transfer case fit into the same truck just as a 1st gen. with a blown automatic? (I.e. standard cab, 4x4, 3.9L, etc.?)

Auto tranny in this one is blown up. But I can get it for $500 off of craigslist which is good for me.

Yes it will work. You will have to setup the clutch pedal lines ect. The 2nd Gen clutch setup will most likely will not the the same as the 1st Gen setup. So custom mounting stuff may be needed. Check the FAQ2 in this section for a manual swap post. 95_318SLT did a good job on it. The check engine light codes will be on due to no auto tranny. And the neutral and reverse lights will need to rewired. The swap posts covers it IIRC. The drive shaft may work from the Gen 2. Take measurements before you remove it all. Custom may be needed if it is off. And don't forget you will need to cut a hole in the bottom of the cab for the shifter.

Ok, thanks for the info, that's what I was looking for. I would've checked the FAQ but I figured that this wasn't one of "those questions", goes to show you eh? If a custom shaft is needed I might be able to do it at my work and TIG weld it up. If anything I hope it will need to be shorter because all we carry in-house is stainless.
I plan on cutting the hole out with a zip blade on a grinder, the clutch is hydraulic so that "should" be easier to route than mechanical there's a plugged up hole in the fire wall I might be able to use and bolt in there and find some way to use the pivot stuff for the linkage.
I looked at it today and everything on the 1st gen seems WAY smaller, maybe it's bigger, I don't know, I know there's a heck of a lot more room in the engine bay on the 1st, but everything is metal, not crappy plastic.
Depending on how things go, I'm gonna try and get this done in a day and a half. Sound reasonable?
That includes pulling both motors and trannies blah blah blah blah blah blah...

EDIT: You guys have some SWEET smileys I have to say. And when I say fit, I mean pretty much bolt in, I'll make anything fit...
