Hello everyone....few questions????
Hello everyone,
My name is Spencer I'm 35 and I live in WV with my wife and son. Enough of the mushy stuff..... I have a couple of questions. First: Why is a 91 considered a 1st gen if it has the newer front end? I once had a 91 which I gave to my Dad it was a 91 2.5 5 speed which he drives everyday...
Second question: This 91 Dakota 4x4 is for sale locally for $1800. Has 140,000 miles,3.9 v6 5 speed. In primer little to no rust and needs muffler, E-brake cable and A/C doesn't work...Runs great. Is it worth it?
This is a great informative site! Good job guys!!!

Welcome to DF.
87-96 is a 1st gen. Yes in 91 it received a new grill. Just about everything else it the same. If the 91-up were totally new frame/body ect then it would be a different generation. But it is all the same.
But all it is a new grill/headlights. If every new grill ect made a new gen, then think of most cars, trucks where simple things change every few years ect.
It sounds like a good deal as long as that is the ONLY things wrong with it. Double and triple everything before you buy it. Don't take the previous owners word on anything.

Yeah, what Crazy said. If you look at those 2 pics, the only real difference is the slight change in grill and bigger, plastic headlight "case" since its no longer a sealed beam light which also makes that top corner lense a lil smaller too, it looks like.

Thanks guys. I was on another Dakota site and they stated that 1st Gen was 87-91, Sec Gen 92-96, Third Gen so on..... I figured it was a mess up.That's why the questions. I got the truck for $1500. Runs great but transfer case seems a little noisy at highway speeds. Four wheel drive works great! Thanks for the replies I'll be sure to use the search option before I fire off some goofy questions.
