Default What Tranny Do I Have?

I have a '92 Sport X-Cab 2WD with V6 and AT. What model AT will this have in it, the 42R or the 46R. I'm downloading a manual for a rebuild and don't want to kill any more trees than I need to.

You have the 42RH transmission. Do you have a 10 ton shop press? You'll need it when you're trying to replace the clutches in the overdrive unit. There's an 845 ft/lb coil spring that keeps the direct clutch applied at all times. Without the press, you'll never be able to safely rebuild it.

The 92 V6's came with the 42RH. V8's were the 46RH. It is listed in the FAQ in this section. The 96 is slightly different, it is a 42RE. It is not the same so the 96 book will not work for you. The E is for Electronic controlled. The H is Hydraulically controlled.

We have a 42RH rebuild manual as well as the factory service manual for 95 with has a 42RH.
