Default low heat from heater

my 92 dakota has a problem with getting good heat from the heater. i let it warm up i get in and have no warm air coming out of the vents on any other speed than the lowest fan speed. if i turn every thing off and wait a few mins i get a burst of warm air and then it cools down again. ive tried flushing out the heater core and that didnt do anything other than make a mess. also the two hoses that go to the heater core, one is really hot and the other one stays cold. this things got me stumped.
edit: i also made sure i had coolant and i made sure to let any trapped air out

The vent doors may not be working properly. Try checking the cables ect. The FAQ has the service manual which has a Heating section that will have all the info you will need.

Is there anyway to update the FAQ sections. They have a lot of dead links.

Also you may want to try flushing the heater core out again. My heater had almost the exact same problem, a blast of warm air followed by frigid cold, turns out my core was almost entirely clogged. I tried using a hose to clear out the gunk but not much improvement. Then I tried this:

And now my heater blasts like a furnace. Can't beat a cheap, easy repair!

Yes it is updatable. Specifically what is not working? Thousands of links, its to hard to click on everyone every day to check if it is working!

Instead of "oven cleaner" you could mix up some lye (preferrably sodium hydroxide which is available as DRY red devil brand- do not use liquid style clog remover) in cold water (exothermic reaction and it will get very hot comparatively) and get better results plus it is cheaper.

Great! Yeah the stuff that came out of my heater core looked exactly like chocolate milkshake, both in color and consistency (but not in taste, haha). I ran a couple of cups of hot bleach through it and got even more out, flushed the hell out of it with a hose, and then let the bleach sit in it for 2 hours and got WAY more out. So yeah, the cleaner the better.

With your heater core circulating properly your engine should run cooler and smoother, and you can't beat a good working defroster!
