most common to leak is the fill tube o-ring. clean around the fill tube and surrounding areas, take it for a drive around the block, get under it and you should be able to see if its coming from there or not. if not, and you have a tranny cooler installed, look into one of those lines being ruptured

fluid leaks are hard to track down, if you can pressure clean the area then run the truck through the gears with the brake on (idle only) and check for fluid you might be able to narrow it down. if you clean it then drive it the fluid will spread everywhere.
isn't the cross member at the rear and the starter at the front of the tranny? sounds like a front tranny seal leak that's spreading to the back.

sorry guy sounds like a burnt tranny (dodge 4 speed autos are known for it).

before you do anything check the fluid level, you might get lucky and the level is low causing the slippage, if not try changing the fluid to solve the slippage problem. might as well start with the cheap solutions first.

If you change the fluid, Only do a drain and fill. DO NOT PRESSURE FLUSH! High mileage tranny + pressure flush = death to trans.
