Default aamco vs hughes

Price wise they are about the same. I dont mind putting in the labor however reliability wise should I have my 95 auto 2wd tranny rebuilt or pick one up from hughes or someplace similar? Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks all

I don't like to bad mouth a company, but you are a brother Dakota owner, so here goes..

I have lived in a few states, and have NEVER heard any good comments about Aamco. Period. I hear they have a good warranty, but I also hear you will need it.That being said, while I was paying the guy for my '84 Power Ram, he told me the transmission was rebuilt by Aamco. I actually paused, but I LOVE that truck, and although I have only put 7k miles on it in a year, when it works, it WORKS. I pull a 7400 pound r.v., haul enough river rock in one load to make a Ford or Chevy cry, and such. There is only 1 issue with it which I am going to have fixed at the place that just rebuilt my Dakota transmission. When I start it and let it warm up, after it has sat for a few days, it doesn't want to move until you get the rpm's up, but if you drive it every day it's fine.I have never heard of Huges, so can't comment. Try to find a place that has a good reputation and "word of mouth" recomendation. I prefer small but professional looking places because they NEED your buisiness, and can't afford to rip you off. But if they do rip you off it's also easier to burn down a small shop![can I say that?]

Stay way away from AAMCO IMO. Did a terrible rebuild on my brothers auto trans and it went out, heard many horror stories from that place. That being said, find a good rebuilder. If they can't do it good it will be the same as going to AAMCO.
