87 to 89?

Default 87 to 89?

My neighbors rear end is loaded with shavings and is noisy. His is a 89 3.9 automatic 4X4.

I am parting out a 87 3.9 automatic. 2X4. We have agreed to do this providing,........it is a simple swap.??

This will include a swap with entire housing with brakes , housing etc. We do not care about right, wrong, one including not worrirg about gear ratio or difference of structural appearence.

We simply want to get er runnin again as we will not be hooking up the front drive line.

SO, bottom line on the question is soley related to the bolt up of the comple assembly to his 89 chassis. It is question of drive shaft, and universal implications. Stength and ratios and appearense do not matter.

Plan and simple answer no it is not a direct bolt in. If yours was a 4wd then yes it would bolt right into the 4wd.

Since it is 2wd the leaf springs mount under the axle. The 4wd mount on top of the axle. The simple way to make it fit is get some spring perches, $10 or so www.summitracing.com and mount them up, get your pinion angle set and weld in the perches.

Sounds like you know but, the ratios must be the same for 4wd to work. I would suggest at lest look to see if the ratios match. The front driveshaft will not need to be removed if they are different, just don't engage the 4wd shifter.

PS I assume I will have a brake line mod as well?

I ask this witout going to eyeball them out due to their location and my home. Welding new perchs, I assume would cause a brake line mod. Or, just take off the 4X4 and place it with the 2wd housing. ? G

In order to do as questioned by me above, they would need to spec out to "factory" identical in measurement castings, as to production etc., would they not?.

The brake likes should be easily swappable.
